EUREKA BOND

K-8 Building - Bus Barn -
Career and Technical Education Building

The purpose of this bond is to provide funds to construct a new two-story K–8 school facility, with elementary grades located on the lower level and middle school grades located on the upper level, including classrooms, gymnasium, library, kitchen, administrative spaces, and student support areas.

Bond proceeds will also be used for the construction of a Career and Technical Education (CTE) facility and a bus barn to support district instructional programs and transportation operations.

In addition, bond funds may be used for the demolition, removal, and site restoration of portions of existing school buildings that are no longer needed, as well as for the renovation, remodeling, and improvement of portions of existing facilities that the district intends to retain, including the repurposing of the existing middle school gymnasium for community use, and related mechanical, electrical, safety, and accessibility upgrades.

A NEW ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL BUILDING

Why A New K-8 Facility?

CONCERNS: As our current building ages, the costs associated with continued operating and maintenance of the district buildings continue to rise.

Separate campus buildings require students and staff to travel outside the building multiple times a day; they are isolated from the rest of the campus; which frustrates attempts to provide effective, real-time supervision of students
The Middle School and Elementary roof systems are at the end of their useful life and must be replaced. With the current roofing costs, the district would be spending close to $1,000,000 to replace each of these roofs. The balance of deferred maintenance, budgets, and educational opportunites must be considered.
Shared Gym space with food service dictates the district's core class schedules and requires PE classes to work around the delivery of student breakfast and lunch times.
Additional gymnasium spaces and shared library space for the district's one librarian. Currently, they have to share their time between Middle School and Elementary School
Lost educational time while transitioning between buildings for music, art, lunch, etc.

BENEFITS OF A BUILDING ADDITION

Effective supervision of students will be achieved by design
Code-required ventilation air ensures a better learning environment
This project will provide our students with classrooms, full Elementary and Middle School Gym Facilities, and flexible/multi-purpose spaces conducive to their ever-changing educational needs
This project will decrease Operation and Maintenance cost by replacing the early 1900's brick buildings.
With an increased efficiency heating system, the cost of operating the additional square footage should not exceed the district's utility budget
Eliminating deferred maintenance costs associated with keeping the current School Buildings.
